Volunteering in Ropecon
Ropecon is the largest fully volunteer organized role playing event in Europe. Ropecon as an event is guided by its values, and volunteering is one of them. We feel that an event organized by volunteers reflects its creators and thus is meaningful to them. Hundreds of volunteers come together to organize Ropecon and taking care of volunteers is an important part of Ropecon’s operations. Ropecon’s volunteers include Ropecon ry -association and annual organization (main organizers and conittee), program and game organizers and the volunteers working in Ropecon’s in-event volunteer positions. There are a variety of volunteer positions, and we welcome everyone to make Ropecon happen!
How to apply
You can apply to different volunteer positions via application form. The work stations with descriptions can be found here. Please familiarize yourself with the work stations beforehand so you can find the most suitable volunteer positions for yourself. Applying to be a volunteer is done through the Kompassi system. Call for volunteers is currently open, and we have started processing applications from April 1 2025 onwards. Call for volunteers can be open until the beginning of the event. Please note that from April on the number of open work stations will decrease as sufficient numbers of volunteers have been found to fill them. By applying no later than May, you guarantee yourself the chance to order a volunteer shirt and influence your work shifts.
Who can apply?
Anyone who is interested in volunteering, who is by the beginning of the event at least 15 years or older and can speak Finnish or English, can apply to be a volunteer at Ropecon. Applying to be a volunteer doesn’t require previous work or volunteering experience, skills or education, let alone Ropecon lore or even visitor experience. Motivation and attitude matter the most! Some workstations or positions may have special requirements regarding volunteer’s age, language skills, physical abilities, training or qualifications. More information about the requirements for specific positions can be found from volunteer task descriptions. If you have any questions about the requirements for volunteering, accessibility or volunteering task conditions, please contact the volunteer coordinator by email. Whether you are a newcomer or an old veteran, please familiarize yourself with the job descriptions and any special requirements before filling out the application form, as the offered positions may vary between years.
Volunteer work and perks
Volunteer work generally consists of 10 hours of work divided into one or more shifts. The exceptions are certain special tasks or project-based tasks based on performance, where actual work shifts are not possible and/or meaningful. However, these are always agreed upon separately.
Ropecon offers volunteers a free entrance to the event, a lanyard pass that shows their right to access the event, and supports their well-being with volunteer meals and access to the volunteer break room. The volunteer break room has refreshments and snacks available around the clock during the event. Volunteers also have the opportunity to order a volunteer shirt at their own expense, if they have applied to volunteer before the shirt order deadline. The deadline is around June, and will be communicated before the deadline. As a volunteer, you also have the opportunity to participate in Ropecon’s afterparty, which is a thank-you event for all Ropecon’s volunteers. The afterparty is organized after the actual event. Volunteers can also receive a work certificate for their contribution after the event. Please note that the perks you receive as a volunteer are personal and cannot be transferred to another person.
