Programme

The main them for Ropecon this year is new weird, that nexus of the real and mythic. At the wellspring of modern mythology is that space where wonder and despair cross paths and the grey of an ordinary day becomes magic, the supernatural stumbles on concrete and feys become microserfs.

This theme is reflected in the costume contest, at the art gallery, and at several lectures and panels. Those unfamiliar with the new weird can acquaint themselves with it through literature or television. Prime examples are works by Neil Gaiman and Petri Hiltunen, Twin Peaks, or the urban troll stories by Johanna Sinisalo. Prime examples of new weird RPG:s are In Nomine, Kult, Changeling: the Dreaming and Mage: the Ascension.

In addition the con will celebrate the 30th anniversary of Dungeons & Dragons, feature the publication of Juhana Petterson's role-playing game book, and keep it's towel handy in case of passing spaceships.
